Spring is finally here though the weather seems more like Winter! We’ve been through a general election and the Conservatives are in. David Cameron appointed a cabinet, after the Conservative Party confounded the pollsters by winning a small majority in Britain’s election. Whilst the Lib Democrats saw their votes collapse to just eight MPs and Labour was virtually wiped out in Scotland by the Scottish National Party.
To top it all off a number of leaders namely Ed Miliband, Nick Cleg and Nigel Farrage (though his party have asked him to stay on) have all resigned.
What does this mean for business? Hopefully having a single party in power for a fixed five-year term will allow for a period of stability and for the encouraging signs of recovery to be built upon. We also hope there will be a focus on businesses and creating an environment which will allow growth. In the legal profession we have faced many challenges in recent years and continue to face new entrants into the market, indeed over 400 Alternative Business Structures (ABS) licences have been granted in the three years since the Law Society started accepting applications.
The challenge for us is to continue to provide legal services that you, our customers, want in the manner you need. We feel there is still a demand for an owner managed law firm to provide quality legal solutions to SMEs, individuals and their families across the region. Our objective is to not only provide legal solutions but also top add-value by seeking opportunities for your business and providing information to assist you.
Part of this process is in the events we host and the people we introduce you to. Another part is in educating and updating you on areas of law. Within our newsletter Philip Coupe discusses the economic effects but in relation to justice. Where economics now dictate how insurers deal with third party claims rather than the legal obligations.
