The Statutory Sick Pay Rebate Scheme will close on 17 March 2022.
Under this scheme, employers can claim back up to two weeks of SSP for each employee who received it due to coronavirus, provided that:-
– The employer has a PAYE payroll scheme that was created and started on or before 30 November 2021; and
– The employer had fewer than 250 employees across all PAYE payroll schemes as of 30 November 2021.
From 17 March 2022, employers will no longer be able to claim back Statutory Sick Pay for employees’ covid-related absences or self-isolation, that occur after this date.
Employers have until 24 March 2022 to submit any new claims for absences up to 17 March 2022 or to amend claims they have already submitted.
Following this, normal SSP rules will return, which means that employers should revert to paying SSP from the fourth qualifying day that their employee is off sick, regardless of the reason for their sickness absence.
