Manchester city centre has been transformed in many ways over the course of recent years and property developments in the area are continuing at pace.
With ambitious schemes and eye-catching endeavours coming together from Angel Meadows to New Islington and from Spinningfields to St Peter’s Square, there is plenty going on and getting built across the city.
Here’s a look at some of the initiatives currently taking shape and in the pipeline across Manchester as of the early months of 2017.
XYZ Building
The XYZ Building is among the newest and most impressive developments added to the Spinningfields area of city centre Manchester. The building was designed by Cartwright Pickard Architects and created by developers Allied London. It incorporates thousands of square feet of quality office space, along with cafes, restaurants and leisure facilities.
Circle Square – former BBC site
Potential redevelopment of the site of the former BBC building along Oxford Road in central Manchester has been a subject of considerable controversy for some years. Green-lit plans for the first phase of a large-scale reimaging of an area now being called Circle Square include the creation of a concert hall, a 36-storey tower block and more than 700 residential apartments.
2 St Peter’s Square
Areas around St Peter’s Square and Central Library have been a major focus of redevelopment work in Manchester for the past several years. A key piece of the puzzle has been the building of Number 2 St Peter’s Square which has seen the creation of 11 floors high quality city centre office space.
A separate £100 million office space development in the same vicinity was also committed to recently by Barings Real Estate Advisors. Planning consent for the scheme has already been granted as developers respond to the growing demand for Grade A offices in Manchester city centre.
Angel Meadow
Plans were submitted in March 2017 for a loftily ambitious new skyscraper in the Angel Meadow area of central Manchester, with developers from the Far East Consortium aiming to bring a new 41-storey, £200 million apartment block to the so-called NOMA district.
Numbers One and Two St Michael’s
One of the more high profile property developments currently in the pipeline for Manchester relates to what might eventually become Numbers One and Two St Michael’s, just off Deansgate in the heart of the city.
The ambitious mixed-used scheme is being led by two former Manchester United football players in Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs but proposals have been put on hold for refinements after something of a backlash from local heritage conservationists.
Brazenose Street and Lincoln Square
Meanwhile, another project that is rather further along in its progress looks set to see 113,500 sq ft of Grade A office space added via a building which will soon become 123-127 Deansgate. The initiative’s developers Worthington Properties recently secured £45 million in funding and are starting construction on a scheme that will hope to make a significant contribution to the wider redevelopment of the Brazenose Street and Lincoln Square area.
