Manchester based law firm, Glaisyers Solicitors LLP, has formed a partnership with Together Dementia Support to run a CSR programme supporting the organisation’s work over the next 12 months.
The law firm, based at St James’ Square in the city centre, will raise funds and provide volunteers over the next year for the not for profit organisation which offers support and therapeutic activities for people living with dementia and their carers across Manchester.
Commenting on the partnership, Chris Burrows, head of private client at Glaisyers Solicitors LLP said: “We wanted to select a charity that we could really help, not just raise money for. In addition to fundraising, our solicitors deal with legal issues involving dementia on a daily basis and have extensive knowledge and experience in this area. This enables us to provide practical support to both the organisation, and the people it helps.
“In Together Dementia Support, we feel that we have found a charity that shares a similar ethos to Glaisyers Solicitors LLP and everybody in the firm is looking forward to doing their bit to help make a real difference to both the charity and those it supports. With over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK, there are few that have not been touched by the disease in some way.”
‘Together Dementia Support was set up in 2014 in response to the need for people living with dementia to have places to go and appropriate and stimulating activities to do. The organisation has grown steadily and currently runs eight support and activity groups across the city of Manchester.
The charity provides a range of activities including: various ‘Friendship & Activity Groups’, a ‘Walk & Talk Group’, a Gospel Choir, a Carers’ Drop-In, a ‘Fabulous Forgetful Friends’ influencing group, and an Art Group. It relies on a large team of volunteers who assist the experienced group facilitators to run these groups.
On the partnership, founder Sally Ferris said: “We are delighted to be working with Glaisyers Solicitors LLP and are very grateful for their support. Our groups and activities play such a key benefit to many across the region living with dementia. This support will allow us to build on our schedule of programmes and continue to deliver uplifting events to the community.”
TDS is passionate about improving the quality of life of people with dementia and their carers, believing that people with this condition still have much to contribute to society and should be enabled to stay physically fit and have fun.
Together Dementia Support is also keen to enable the voice of people with dementia and their carers to be heard in shaping and campaigning for better services. The partnership with Glaisyers will help TDS in raising funds to maintain and develop its services. It will also enable Glaisyers staff and supporters to learn more about dementia and to know that they are making a difference for older people in Manchester.
